Heejo Yang
Violist
Violist Heejo Yang comes from South Korea, where she made her concerto debut and won prizes in multiple competitions.
She has performed both in the United States and Korea. As a chamber musician, she won a chance to perform at a Chamber Music Concert representing the Orchestral Performance department of the Graduate School of Ewha Womans University, and she is currently playing as a violist in Florestan Quartet. She also performed in various places this summer, as she was selected as an accelerated chamber musician in music festival ‘CenterStage’.
As an orchestra player, she played in various orchestras in Korea including the University Orchestra festival and Ewha Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also worked as a principal violist and instructor at Chung-un Elementary School, Gwang-jin Youth Symphony Orchestra, Wirye Youth Symphony Orchestra and Samsung Philharmonic Orchestra. She is currently performing as the principal violist in the University Philharmonic Orchestra at the University of Michigan.
As a soloist, she won prizes in multiple competitions in Korea and made her concerto debut in 2014 with Yong-in Philharmonic Orchestra. She participated in music festival ‘Musicalta’ hosted in France and performed at Evening Concerts representing viola. This year, she participated in the music festival ‘CenterStage’ and performed in the Young Artist Concert. She also participated in local festivals in Korea- Ilsan, Seoul and Busan.
As a violist, Heejo is seeking to promote music through various ways. She has studied at Sunhwa Arts High School, BA in Orchestral Performance and minor in English Language and Literature in Ewha Womans University, moved from Graduate School of Ewha Womans University to University of Michigan for more experience. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in performance and chamber music with Yizhak Schotten at the University of Michigan.
